The Ramkavar-Azatakan (Democratic Liberal) Party has divided into two camps ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia. The Armenian branch of the party has announced that it is joining the alliance formed around influential businessman Gagik Tsarukyan. Diaspora-based Ramkavars are against the decision. “Being a Diaspora-based structure, we have not allowed us to interfere with the internal affairs [of the country] or influence some people in their decision to join a certain alliance,” said Levon Plkyan, a Chairman of the party’s Central Board. Diaspora-based Ramkavars do not want to cooperate with the opposition forces in Armenia. “We have always collaborated with all structures that have the same vector. Ramkavars in Armenia have deviated from this course,” he stressed. Hakob Avetikyan, Chairman of the Ramkavar-Azatakan" (Liberal-Democratic) Party of Armenia, who showed up at the press conference at the last moment, said in October 2016 they convened a congress to elect a central office and there is no obstacle that can prevent them from participating in the April elections.
