Armenian Ombudsman meets Council of Europe official

Armenia’s Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) Arman Tatoyan had a meeting with Snežana Marković, Director General of the Directorate General of Democracy of the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg. During the meeting, the parties discussed the projects related to the protection of women’s and children’s rights. In particular, the events and activities conducted in the framework of the joint project of the Human Rights Defender and the Council of Europe on the protection of rights of women and children were presented, stressing the importance of the continuation of such projects. In addition, the importance of the Defender’s active role in protection of children’s rights defined in the new Law on the Human Rights Defender, as well as the legal possibility of monitoring the protection of children's rights were emphasized. Considering the effective mutual cooperation, S. Markovic suggested to expand it in other areas as well. At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to develop the bilateral cooperation between the Defender’s Institution and the Council of Europe, enhancing the areas of cooperation and make it continuous, reports the Press Service of the Ombudsman's Office.
