Levon Aronian has a chance to play with Magnus Carlsen
Today World Chess Rapid and Blitz Championships will kick off in the capital of Qatar, Doha. 120 chess players are taking part in the men’s tournament, including current world champion Magnus Carlsen, Sergey Karjakin, former champion Viswanathan Anand and other leading chess players. Three GMs will present Armenia in that championship. They are Levon Aronian, Vladimir Hakobyan and Hrant Melkumyan. From December 26-28, the participants will hold 5 rapid chess games daily, the results of which will reveal the new world champion in rapid chess. On December 29 and 30 the chess players will compete in blitz chess. The tournament consists of 21 rounds. The fund of the championship makes up USD 400 000. Winners will receive USD 40 000 each, the 2nd-3rd places USD 32 000 and 26 000 respectively. In general, participants taking 1-10th places will receive money prizes.
