Grand Tobacco among largest taxpayers

Some 296 of the largest 521 taxpayers registered in Armenia are on the risk list. Anyway, these 296 companies have paid 12% more tax revenues in the eleven months of 2016 as compared to the same period in 2015. Rafik Mashadyan, Head of the Tax Inspectorate of Large Taxpayers, says in recent months the actions of tax authorities were aimed at preventing tax fraud, rather than imposing sanctions on taxpayers without preliminary warning. “To this end, our units that carry out analytical and supervisory functions assess the risks through their activities and daily monitoring and present the results at meetings that start in October. After these meetings, a number of these companies change they tax policies partly or completely,” he said adding that actions of the State Revenue Committee are aimed at ensuring equal footing for all organizations in the tax field because shadow companies undermine the competitive environment. Consistent and targeted actions will make entities declare taxes voluntarily. The largest taxpayer remains Gazprom Armenia Company. Grand Tobacco Armenian-Canadian Joint Venture LLC has bettered its position to be included among the largest taxpayers. The tax revenues of companies registered in the Tax Inspectorate will total about 436.5 billion drams in 2016, which is 22 billion drams more than last year’s indicator.
