An independence referendum was held in Nagorno-Karabakh on December 10 1991. Crimea held a referendum on independence on March 16, 2014. If the Armenians living in Nagorno Karabakh made use of the so-called remedial right to secession, Crimea was simply annexed by another country [Russia].
