Number of Russian tourists visiting Antalya decreases by 84%

The tourism industry of Turkey has lost millions of tourists during January-November of this year, most of whom are the tourists from Russia. One year after the crash of Russian military aircraft, the Turkish «Sondakika.com» website presented the consequences caused to the tourism industry as a result of temporary crisis between the relations of two countries. Particularly, statistics have been held on the number of tourists visiting Turkey’s renowned tourist destination, Antalya, comparing the period from the beginning of 2015 till November 24 (day of aircraft’s crash) and from the beginning of 2016 till November 24. According to the data, compared with 2015, that number has decreased by 84 percent in 2016 (it decreased from 2 million 800.000 to 452.000). Moreover, 432.000 tourists started to visit Turkey from September 2, when Russian airlines again resumed passenger flights to Turkey. From January 1 till August 31 of this year, the number of Russian tourists hasn’t surpass 20.000, whereas during the same period of last year that number made up 2 million 170.000. 30-35% of the sector, which is considered to be the locomotive of the resort-town’s economy, is formed thanks to the tourists arriving from Russia. It is noted that the fall in the tourism sector to some extent has influenced another 52 sectors, causing reduction of the hotels’ staff, as well as some problems in the consumption of products of the food industry. ermenihaber.am
