Expensive firewood makes a villager create a saving heater (video)
Hranush Kharatyan, 81-year-old resident of Margahovit community of Lori marz, has been living alone for already 20 years. Her children have emigrated, but she isn’t displeased with her fate:
“We are fine. A resident of the village having everything,” she told Armenian and Georgian journalists. But the teacher of the village isn’t optimistic like her. One by one she is showing the emptied houses of the village.
“See how many closed doors there are. The school is becoming smaller and smaller; there are few pupils,” notes Marieta Danielyan.
The residents of Antaramerdz community don’t enjoy the goods of the forest. They buy the firewood paying AMD 6-10.000 per cubic meter. To note for the comparison, the residents of the frontier communities of Georgia pay about AMD 1500 for the same quantity of firewood.
Though the village has gas, the blue fuel is very expensive here.
“I use gas equal to AMD 30.000 and still feel cold. A large family sleep in one room with 6-7 people, because only that room is heated; it isn’t my family, but the situation is the same in the whole village. Everything is done in a room, while the people built huge houses, but the other rooms grow musty,” notes the teacher.
Samvel Ananyan, village head of Margahovit, says that winter lasts long in their region, about 6 months, and using gas to heat the houses is out of question:
“We must have firewood. We wish the price was lower,” says the village head.
Armen Safaryan, a resident of the community, has found a solution. He created a heater, which effectively saves firewood, “While burning the wood produced gas, the flame, which comes out, is called pyrolysis. The matter is how you should use that pyrolysis. The burning process is carried out from the bottom; the fire doesn’t go up, but goes in horizontal direction. You should not only burn wood, but also other materials in order to save.”
Armen Safaryan first used the heater in his house. He says that thanks to the new heater they were able to save half of the firewood.
The price of the saving heater starts from USD 500. Until now Armen Safaryan has sold two heaters.
