As a result of exceptional research in historical Aghdzk, relics of Armenian kings have been found. Archeologist Hakob Simonyan is sure that those are the bones of Artashisyan and Arshakunyats kings. By the way, the relics were found not in the mausoleum, but under the paving of the church. “Three stone boxes were found in front of the altar; they were sealed. A cross was even preserved on one of them. We dug up two boxes, in which there were human bodies; one thing was clear; before placing them in the boxes soft tissues were removed from the bones,” archeologist Hakob Simonyan told the journalists. By the way, if organic substances are maintained in the bones, DNA testing will be used. The third box hasn’t been opened yet. The archeologists want to open it in the presence of officials and journalists. “The day will be set when Serzh Sargsyan and Prime Minister find time,” said Hakob Simonyan. According to the preliminary project, the excavations will continue for a year. The idea of carrying out excavations was proposed by the NA lawmaker Aragats Akhoyan at the NA. According to his words, the excavations are carried out fully by the state means and it is the only mausoleum of the kings, which place is known. “It must be preserved and passed to the future generations,” summed up Aragats Akhoyan. During these days the number of visitors in Aghdzk is over 500.
