Tension is building around the mayoral poll in Sevan city which is scheduled for October 2. Residents of the city are most concerned about the situation in the city which is preparing for the Sunday elections. Talking to A1+ they said that the nephew of the incumbent mayor [Rudik Ghukasyan] had been beaten for his attempts to prevent distribution of bribes. Witnesses say the assailants were supporters of mayoral candidate Sargis Muradyan. Some reports suggest that the latter enjoys the support of the local law enforcement authorities who ‘turn a blind eye to violence.’ “Those rabbits cannot beat anyone,” Rudik Ghukasyan said, when rejecting the information. We have been unable to verify the information from the police. “No one feels secure in Sevan. The police and authorities have joined to support Sargis Muradyan’s candidacy. They intimidate everyone who tries to prevent them from distributing bribes,” say the locals.
