EUR 3.3 million for development of organic agriculture in Armenia

“Organic economy has great potential for development in Armenia,” said the newly appointed Minister of Agriculture Ignati Arakelyan during the meeting organized within the frames of the Organic Agriculture Support Initiative (OASI) program. The projects, which became winners at grant competition, have been presented and new support program has been announced, which is intended for small farmers and farmer groups. OASI project received 72 grant applications, best 18 applications were approved with more than EUR 800 000. John Barker, International Aid/Cooperation Officer of the EU to Armenia, noted that by providing material and technical aid they hope that more farmers will be engaged in organic agriculture. The project will promote successful consumption of Armenian production in the local and international markets. The whole budget of the project makes up EUR 3.3 million.
