Arusyan Ayvazyan is the only self-nominated candidate vying for the mayor's post in the Oct. 12 elections in Garni community. There were parties that offered me to second my candidacy but I sharply rejected their proposal,” she says. One of her contenders is a former member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK). The other two candidates are affiliated with the Armenian Revolutionary Federation – Dashnaktsutyun and Republican Party of Armenia (HHK), respectively. Arusyan Ayvazyan has chosen her method of struggle. “I ask everyone, what problems they have to see whether I can resolve them. These problems may relate to the community or daily life,” she says. Many people remember Arusyak Ayvazyan who participated in the fight for the River Azat. She is determined to continue the struggle until the problem receives an official solution. Ms. Ayvazyan says there are numerous problems in their community. The most important is that Garni, which is known for its springs and drinking water sources and which provides water to Yerevan and Ararat, has problems with drinking water. “Residents do not have water for months…,” she says. Meanwhile, there are unused resources in the area, which can solve the problem. Another key point of the candidate’s program is to create new workplaces. We shall beautify Garni, lay asphalt, fill the budget with the help of Garni and provide the youth with employment opportunities,” she continues. Arusyak Ayvazyan says she will win if people put aside family ties and party affiliations.
