Garo Yeghnukian, a member of the Founding Parliament opposition group accused of supporting the Sasna Dzrer group, is disputing the prosecutor’s inaction in court. All applications filed by him and his lawyer have been left unanswered. Yeghnukian says this very fact speaks to the fact that he has been in prison for his political views. When the charged are not grounded and when the evidence presented to the court has nothing to do with the charges, what should one think? I am denied also meetings and I do not receive any information. What does it mean? In fact, they are trying to silence me,” says the member of the Founding Parliament movement. Today, Garo Yeghnukian declared in court that his freedom of movement and freedom of speech have been restricted. He cited the case against Russian citizen Sergei Mironov and asked why the person wanted by Interpol was set free while he was placed under arrest. “I have a family, property and immovables… Where shall I take them? Where can I flee? I returned to Armenia. I have been living here for 7 years? Did I return to Armenia to flee again? The court session lasted 15 minutes. Judge Arshak Vardanyan rejected the appeal upon his return from the consulting room. The judge was unlikely to make a decision against the prosecutor who has been recently appointed… Yeghnukian’s mother and brother, who live in the USA, were present in the court siting. "As you know, Garo Yeghnukian is married and has five children. I came to support them,” said Grigor Yeghnukian. He also believes that his brother was arrested for his political views. "This is a consequence of tyranny." Yeghnukian’s lawyer is going to appeal the decision in a higher court.
