Hovhannes Sahakyan: Nothing tragic happened (video)
Yesterday at the local elections in 317 communities the Republican Party of Armenia was defeated in more than 30 communities: “Nothing tragic happened,” says the NA HHK faction member Hovhannes Sahakyan. Hovhannes Sahakyan won’t connect these defeats with weakening of the party: “It hasn’t weakened, it led an incorrect policy, it made ‘incorrect’, in a good sense of the word, investment in some people.” He reminds that the Republican Party won in more than 280 communities, and the defeats will make the party stronger. “For us, for example, those 30 communities have become more important than the others. As we can see that we have problems there, and we must gain votes in those 30 communities in 2017 elections,” says the HHK faction member. Hovhannes Sahakyan states that the defeat of the Republican Party in several communities shows that the other political powers resorted to the political methods of the struggle, understanding that nothing can be decided by taking to the streets. “To win at any price isn’t a goal for us.” The victory of the Republican Party in most of the communities raises questions for Mikael Melkumyan, when we recall the words of PM Karen Karapetyan about difficult economic situation in Armenia. “If the elections were transparent and fair, to say, they must have lost in more communities, as it is obvious that if the situation is bad, the ruling party cannot gain victory,” thinks the NA Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) faction member Mikael Melkumyan. Though most of the BHK candidates won yesterday’s elections of community head and Council of Elders, Mikael Melkumyan won’t say that the people have full trust in the elections. Though, BHK lawmaker can see some progress. He thinks that hereafter the opposition parties must think about nominating more competitive candidates. By the way, Mr Melkumyan is aware that the candidate of the Civil Contract party gained victory in one of the communities. He thinks of one legislative initiative, by which the authorities will be obliged to finance the villages, which have an oppositional village headman, by the same projects like the villages having a Republican community head.
