Candidates are not aware of theatre life (video)
Actors of Gyumri's Vardan Achemyan Drama Theatre disapprove of the new competition for the post of director. Two candidates – Margarita Minasyan and Araksya Kirakosyan – participate in the competition. Actress Susanna Baghdasaryan says neither of them has anything to do with the theatre. “They have no notion of this organism, its structure and functions,” said the distinguished actress. None of the employees was aware that the term of office of Director Gevorg Khachatryan had expired. Arkadi Gharagulyan added that the director had been busy with the renovation of the stage and forgotten to submit the necessary documents for the contest. The actors have turned to the Minister of Culture who has promised to help them. If the problem is not resolved, Arkadi Gharagulyan says the staff is ready to resort to extreme measures. Aspram Baghdasaryan added in turn that they have nothing against the two candidates, but they want to see a competent person in their theatre. Most actors want Gevorg Khachatryan to be re-appointed as Director of the Vardan Achemyan Drama Theatre. Khachatryan is a member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia. “Our director has never ordered us to participate in elections or vote for a definite candidate. We have never been involved in politics,” Susanna Baghdasaryan added.
