The charges leveled against Garo Yeghnukian, a member of the Founding Parliament opposition group, have been written by linguists, rather than lawyers, lawyer Tigran Hayrapetyan told reporters on Monday. He says people facing criminal charges are accused of making and receiving phone calls. “”Sheer nonsense! He [Yeghnukian] faces four charges at a time – for providing the Sasna Dzrer group members information about the movement of technique, heading people from Liberty Square to Khorenatsi Street, spreading information about poor food, as well as attempts to ensure radio connection for the guys.” The lawyer says Yeghnukian is charged with supporting Pavel Manukyan in keeing police officers hostage for a long time, while Manukyan has not been yet. “I cannot imagine a more absurd accusation,” Tigran Hayrapetyan said. At least 16 individuals, including Alek Yenigomshyan, have been charged for supporting the Sasna Dzrer group. Yenigomshyan, who is accused of keeping a constant contact with Varuzhan Avetisyan and Pavel Manukyan, as well as providing the group members information about the actions of law enforcement agencies, says the charges against him are politically motivated. “I do not see anything. Can you imagine that I saw and reported [to them] the number of armored vehicles that entered the street?” he says. Artur Sakunts, a leading human rights activist in Armenia, says in this case similar charges should be filed against Karabakh MP Vitaly Balasanyan who also kept contact with the Sasna Dzrer group.
