Garegin Chukaszyan: Movement will be led from prison and underground
“The most important is the birth of the Sasna Dzrer movement,” Garegin Chukaszyan, Chairman of the Founding Parliament opposition movement, said in a Facebook post late on Sunday after the surrender of the Sasna Dzrer group members. “From now on, the movement will be led from prison and underground until its leaders are release from prison,” said Chugaszyan, who himself remains in hiding. Sasna Dzrer” Earlier on Sunday, Varuzhan Avetisyan, a member of the Sasna Dzrer armed group, in a telephone conversation with 1in.am news agency said they had decided to lay down their arms and surrender to law enforcement at 8p.m. in order to avoid further bloodshed. He said they did not want to open fire on police officers ‘who are only executing orders’ and chose to avoid further bloodshed and become ‘prisoners of war’ instead. Later the National Security Service said ‘law enforcement authorities have arrested twenty terrorists and the police compound in Yerevan’s Erebuni district was ‘completely liberated.’
