Armenian Red Cross Society says it cannot become mediator
The Armenian Red Cross Society (ARCS) has been following the situation in Yerevan’s Erebuni district since July 17. In a statement issued on Friday, the ARCS said there is misconception in public about the factions of the Red Cross, particularly those of the Armenian Red Cross Society. On July 21, a group of civil activists applied to the ARCS voicing their concern over the situation and asking the ARCS to be involved as a neutral intermediary that would deliver food and water to the hostages and gunmen staying inside a seized police station in the district. The ARCS cannot carry out such a mission since entering a closed and blocked area is outside the scope of the ARCS mandate.
