The police in Armenia have been adequate in their actions in the recent days, they are guided by the evangelical principle “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth,” sociologist Aharon Adibekyan said on Friday. When journalists reminded that police officers forcibly detained people from Khorenatsi street, including women and elderly people, Adibekyan simply said ‘it can happen.’ Anyway, the sociologist acknowledged that the police are not ideal and there can be ‘blockheads’ among police officers. Ethnographer Hranush Kharatyan says the actions of the police officers were legitimized by their superiors. “A police officer is obliged what he is ordered by his superiors. Whether he does it by force, by begging, demanding or pulling is the other side of the issue,” she said.
