Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) continues to take measures for restoring negotiations which were unilaterally suspended on July 23 by the Sasna Dzrer armed group that seized a patrol police building in Yerevan on July 17. In particular, it was offered to take one of the wounded gunmen to hospital to ensure proper medical treatment for him, however, the gunmen rejected this proposal. In a statement issued on July 25, the NSS says that new arrests have been carried out in connection with the takeover of the police HQ, and another group, supporting the gunmen, has been revealed. According to the information received, it became known that Kh. G., the owner of the truck which was used by the group during the attack on a police building, had been forced to give his truck to the group under threat. At the same time, it became known that individual members of the group forced their accomplices outside the seized police building to use explosives and break through the police cordon on Khorenatsi Street in order to take the firearms they seized inside the building. The NSS warns everyone that all everyone suspected of assisting the group are under the attention of the competent state bodies. All legitimate and available measures are being taken to suspend or suppress their possible criminal actions. The NSS is convinced that there is still a way to resolve the situation in a peaceful way and calls on the gunmen to immediately stop their criminal activity, including violence against human life, health and property, to voluntarily lay down the weapons and surrender to the authorities without resistance. There is still time for it. “We remind that the type of punishment and the degree of its severity will be determined by the nature of actions taken by each and every member of the group and the ensuing consequences. In case of the presence of the conditions stipulated by the Armenian law, those persons, who voluntarily refused to commit a crime, can be exempted from the criminal liability In this regard, on July 25, written explanations were handed to the gunmen. They were also informed about the the sequence of the actions and how they should surrender to law enforcement authorities,” the NSS said in the statement.
