Upper Lars is open between 5.30 am and 8.00 pm
All roads in Armenia were passable as of 09.00 a.m., according to the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations. Georgian Interior Ministry’s Emergencies Department reports that on July 24 the Upper Lars crossing will be open from 5.30 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. The highway will be close again in the evening hours and at night for security reasons. The crossing is open for all types of vehicles in case they observe the security rules. Oncoming traffic from both sides at the same time is prohibited, and the travel shall be carried out without any stops. In the event of intense precipitation, the movement of vehicles will be prohibited. Upper Lars crossing, which serves as Armenia’s main trade route to Russia, reopened to traffic on July 6 after being blocked by a massive landslide on June 24. Hundreds of people and trucks remained stranded at the mountainous checkpoint for two weeks after the closure of the checkpoint.
