Nice airport evacuated over report about 'suspicious package'

17.09 The Associated Press (AP) says luggage left inside the building sparked the evacuation at Nice airport a day after the horrific Bastille Day terror attack. Officers investigated a suspect package but after an hour cancelled the alarm and let people back in. 16.52 Nice airport has been evacuated, with armed troops shutting down the entire scene, RIA Novosti news agency reports.

The reason for the evacuation is as yet unclear but passengers have been ordered to leave the building.

The airport has now been sealed off and military personnel can be seen inside the huge glass terminal.

Security in the airport, as well as the rest of Nice, is high after an attack that left 84 people dead overnight. A man drove through the city's promenade in a truck, killing and injuring people celebrating France's Bastille Day, before being shot by police. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the breaking news attack in Nice.
