Lavrov: “We have grounds to think that we are now moving much closer to success” (video)

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who is currently in Azerbaijan, met with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev; the process of Karabakh conflict resolution was among the topics of discussion. “The conversation was rather useful, and this will help us to move forward toward realization of the understanding reached by the presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia at the meeting in St. Petersburg. We have grounds to think that we are now moving much closer to success than ever before,” said Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during the joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov. The main topic of speech of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister was again process of Karabakh conflict resolution. He especially highlighted the efforts by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin for resolving the issue. Mammadyarov highlighted that after the meeting in St. Petersburg, Putin had phone conversations with Presidents of France and the USA, and that they also had discussions with them. “The military component in the conflict is a big threat both for regional and international security,” said Mammadyarov. He also reminded the words of Ilham Aliyev that the talks aren’t so intense, “As a result of rapid talks, we will be able to make progress in such issues, which haven’t been resolved yet,” said Azerbaijani official. During the joint press conference with Sergey Lavrov, Mammadyarov also declared that during the upcoming months serious discussions are expected between Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia over the issue of creation of transport corridor.
