Human Rights Watch to implement projects together with the RA HRD office

On June 29 Armenian Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan met with Human Rights Watch’s advocacy director for Europe and Central Asia Philippe Dam in Geneva. During the meeting the sides stressed the importance of implementing prevention activities by the Ombudsman aimed at establishing international standards of human rights in Armenia. In particular, issues related to the Ombudsman’s playing as the role of the national prevention mechanism in the fight against torture and other forms of ill treatment were discussed. They highlighted the necessity of monitoring visits to penitentiary and correctional facilities. The sides attached importance to the cooperation and the promotion of activities with the civil society organizations and mass media. Issues related to the prevention of domestic violence, in particular, the adoption of uniform legislation, as well as the protection of rights of people with disabilities and other fields were discussed at the meeting. The sides agreed to conduct active cooperation through organizing joint events, ensuring the participation of representatives from both sides, conducting joint research on the human rights protection issues and presenting proposals on the elimination of violence of human rights.
