Azerbaijan started the four-day war in Karabakh with the tacit consent of the Kremlin, says political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan. He says the reasons for Moscow’s silence are evident. “It is most likely that Russia has invited Azerbaijan to join the Eurasian Economic Union and Azerbaijan demanded that Russia remain silent in return.” The participants of the discussion “Transcaucasia between Chaos and Development” disagreed with Melik-Shahnazaryan. They blame the regional instability on Turkey. Vagharshak Harutyunyan, a former Defense Minister of Armenia, is not concerned about the fact that our strategic partner, Russia, sells weapons to Azerbaijan. “As a former defense minister I can say that if Russia stops selling arms to Azerbaijan the latter will buy weapons from Turkey which is interested in war, while Russia now controls Azerbaijan’s aspirations,” he said. The participants of the discussion agreed that Turkey is a threat for Armenia and Russia as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is ready to do everything to save his power.
