Nikolai Kapitonenko: “Member states sell arms to anyone they want”
What is the opinion of NATO on the fact that arms are sold to the opposing parties. “It is an issue Ukraine also had to face during last two years,” said Nikolai Kapitonenko, Director of Center for International Relations Research (Ukraine), in reply to the question by “A1+”. During the online press conference organized by “Region” research center he presented the lessons they learnt. “The arms are sold not by NATO, but by member states. Irrespective of NATO’s aid to Ukraine, it cannot influence the decision of American arms supply here. I have suspicions that the opposite mechanism operates, too. Member states of NATO sell arms to anyone they want, if they don’t take part in embargo,” said Nikolai Kapitonenko. The press conference was organized within the frames of Challenges to the Security of South Caucasus Countries and NATO – 2016 with the assistance of NATO Public Diplomacy Division.
