Armenians living in Tbilisi rejoice, get confused and without waiting for questions start to tell about their life and ask about Armenia on seeing Armenians coming from Armenia. “Armenians living in Tbilisi are very enthusiastic; I have just seen Armenians from Yerevan and blessed them. I am sorry for not speaking good Armenian, literary Armenian, it isn’t good, as I know Armenian, I adore Armenian,” Karine Khachaturova, an Armenian woman living in Tbilisi, told “A1+”. Mrs Karine regrets to say that her parents changed “yan” of her surname. She considers herself to be an Armenian. She is proud that her uncle was the designer of Georgian National Opera Theater situated on Rustaveli Avenue. “We, the Armenians, were born in Tbilisi, but our heart and thoughts are in Yerevan. The Armenians, who don’t live in their country, are even sadder. Do you know why? As they miss their homeland every day.” She longs to come and live in Yerevan, but high prices of flats prevent her and her mother. As the locals state, Armenians migrate from Tbilisi into Russia and Europe, too. Formerly, they could see and speak to each other in streets, but today Armenians living in Tbilisi can be seen in the same place only during festive events. “During other days people are busy with their daily needs. I regret to say that everything has been late- theatres, concerts so that my people can gather, contact each other, Armenians lose their language, faith, everything,” says 67-year-old Artush Melikyan, who was born in Tbilisi, but sometimes comes to Armenia to meet his relatives and work. Artush Melikyan was born and lives in Tbilisi, but his son served in the Armenian Army. His main concern is preservation of Armenian identity of his grandchildren, “My grandchildren get education in Georgian, when we are Armenians and are losing our sweet Armenian language, what does it mean?” Most of Armenians living in Tbilisi refrained from giving interview; they were embarrassed either about their bad Armenian or simply were excited on hearing about Armenia. tbilisi tbilisi2 tbilisi3
