FREEDOM HOUSE RECOGNIZED ARMENIA AS A COUNTRY POSSESSING PARTIALLY FREE MEDIA

"Armenia was recognized as a country possessing partially free Media". This statement was made in Press Freedom Survey 2002 annual report published by the American Freedom House Legal Defense Organization.

Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldavia from CIS are included in the list of the countries having " partially free Media". Azerbayjan, Byelorussia and Middle East countries were considered as countries having "Not free Media".

The Press Freedom Survey 2002 year report says that all private TV and Radio Stations of Armenia are to be licenced in TV and Radio National Commission which members are appointed by the president of the country.

Freedom House' standpoint is that "demand for providing % 65 air with own production is burden of finance sense for the majority of Armenian electronic Mass Media".

Armenian journalists often make self-censorship when elucidating Karabagh problem, problems of national security and corruption, says Press Freedom Survey 2002 report.

"Though the Authorities seldom threaten the Armenian journalists, nevertheless, the journalists often run the danger of attacks and offended", - is said in Freedom House report.
