The United States calls on the parties to the Karabakh conflict to return to the negotiating table to be able to reach a comprehensive settlement of the conflict, Mark Toner, Deputy Spokesperson of the U.S. Department of State, said this commenting on a bill that will obligate Armenia to formally recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent republic. “The United States, along with the rest of the international community, does not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh,” Toner said. "Nagorno-Karabakh's final status will only be resolved in the context of a comprehensive settlement so we urge the sides to come to the negotiating table in good faith in order to reach a settlement that achieves those goals,” he stressed. The U.S. official added that the main principles that the United States supports for the resolution of this conflict are non-use of force, self-determination and territorial integrity. “But we’ve also very much said that all of this needs to be worked out within the context of the [OSCE] Minsk group. There is a process here, and that process needs to be respected by all parties,” Mark Toner added.
