The sitting of the executive board of ruling Justice and Development party (AKP) has ended in Turkey. After the 40 minutes’ sitting of the executive board of the ruling AK party, Turkey’s Prime Minister, Chairman of the party Ahmet Davutoglu made a statement. Davutoglu, presenting in detail  the activities carried out during his tenure, the challenges faced by his party and his personal activities, as well as thanking his party members, said, “On May 22 an extraordinary congress of the party will take place, during which new president of the party will be elected. I think it will be right that the head of the party be changed. I have no intention to present my candidacy at these elections. This decision is not because of me, but is out of necessity. I will continue my activities as an AK party lawmaker.” Taking into account that in Turkey the Prime Minister is also the head of the ruling party, the decision of Davutoglu on not presenting his candidacy at the elections of party’s president due on May 22 means that he quits the post of Prime Minister. In connection with Davutoglu’s decision, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “It is his personal decision.” Details here
