We cannot know how long the intense gunfire by the Azerbaijan side will continue in the conflict zone. With this intense firing Azerbaijan will not achieve any success. With its actions Azerbaijan proves the Armenian side yet another time that there is no possibility to return Azerbaijan to the negotiating table, political analyst Alaxender Markarov said on May 4 speaking about the April skirmishes in the Karabakh conflict zone. The political analyst says Armenia has toughened its stance towards the international community. Yet, instead of looking for those guilty of the deadly clashes we had better find constructive scenarios. “On the other hand, Azerbaijan might annoy the Minsk group co-chairs so much that the international mediators might use all official and non-official levers to make Azerbaijan understand that in the current situation they cannot guarantee that Armenia will not resort to extreme measures and recognize Karabakh. It is clear that the recognition of Karabakh will shift the settlement of the conflict to a new level,” he said. Asked whether we should expect new escalation of the conflict by Azerbaijan ahead of the May holidays, Mr Markarov said, “It has been reported officially that Azerbaijan is moving more troops on the border areas and the goal is clear. On the night of May 9, they will start fighting psychologically but it is difficult to predict their actions as it is also a matter of calculations. I do not think that Azerbaijan is ready to start military actions and then sustain another defeat; that is not included in their plans. They need to be fully confident of their success but no one can guarantee it.” Speaking about the meeting of Karabakh President Bako Sahakyan and Armenia’s first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, the political analyst said, “This chain of meetings has its logic - to get acquainted with the situation on the border,  share and exchange experience, etc. We must understand that the first President heads a political party that is represented in the Armenian parliament. Besides, he [Levon Ter-Petrosyan] is interested in the country’s political life."
