Starting April 21, a new airline called Armenia will carry out flights from Armenia to European countries at $49, without paying the taxes set by Zvartnots Airport. Talking to media representatives on March 9, Tamaz Gaiashvili, one of the shareholders of the Armenia airline, said tickets will cost about €100. He said the company will operate regular flights to Russia, specifically to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov, Samara, Sochi, as well as Tehran, Dubai, Prague, Tel Aviv, Kiev, Minsk, Barcelona, Frankfurt, London and Cyprus. “Over time, we shall expand the geography of flights. The maiden flight of the airline will take place on April 21 and the destinations will be Moscow and Tel Aviv. We want Armenians to be satisfied with the prices of flights,” he said. Robert Hovhannisyan, another shareholder of the Armenia airline, added that everything is ready and they are waiting for the permission of the Ministry of Economy to start flights. “Now we are recruiting Armenian pilots and technical staff members who are not in Armenia. We shall start with three planes, but we plan to increase the number to 8 until the end of the year. All passengers will be allowed to check-in up to 25 kg for free,” he said. Both men stressed that ticket prices will be 23% more expensive compared with those in Georgia, which they accounted for current aviation fuel prices. Tamaz Gaiashvili also noted in speech that Zvartnots Airport is incomparably better than the Georgian airport.
