On February 12 the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs will consider the applications of three candidates for Ombudsman position. The Republican party of Armenia (HHK) proposed the candidacy of Deputy Minister of Justice Arman Tatoyan. The Rule of Law (OEK) and independent lawmaker Edmon Marukyan proposed the candidacy of “Heritage” lawmaker Zaruhi Postanjyan and the Armenian Prosperous Party (BHK) member Tigran Urikhanyan proposed the candidacy of lawyer Narek Aloyan. According to the words of Head of the BHK faction, Tigran Urikhanyan has broken their arrangement, “We discussed that we would propose a joint candidate, that was the preliminary arrangement, if something has changed, I am not aware of it,” says the BHK faction Head Naira Zohrabyan. “There wasn’t an arrangement that Tigran Urikhanyan must have proposed the candidacy of Makar Yeghiazaryan,” says spokesman of Alliance Party Vardan Kocharyan. For the BHK the preferred candidate for the Ombudsman position is member of the political board Makar Yeghiazaryan, about whom Naira Zohrabyan has submitted a note to the committee- to consider his candidacy if it is possible from the point of view of rules and regulations. The only member from the BHK faction in the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs is Tigran Urikhanyan. “The BHK still has time to propose their member at the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs, and they can propose their own candidate,” says Vardan Kocharyan. “Technically there is no time anymore in order to present a new member at the Committee on State and Legal Affairs,” notes Naira Zohrabyan. “A sitting of the faction must be convened, they must apply to the NA President, who must direct the relevant member of the faction to our committee,” noted Hovhannes Sahakyan, President of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs.
