2015 was ‘another year of peace’ for Armenia, Republican lawmaker Gagik Minasyan told A1+ today. Summing up the year, the MP said, “We are in “neither war, nor peace” state and we should do everything to ensure lasting peace.” Mr Minasyan is concerned about the fact that Azerbaijan has intensified provocations. “We always say that we give Azerbaijan an inadequate response, but it is impossible to return the losses that we sustain.” The Republican lawmaker views the Western sanctions against Russia as a serious challenge and says in the given situation we must do everything to keep our economy away from possible adverse developments, diversify our economy, try to find new markets and continue to sell our products in Russia irrespective of the fact how much the Russian ruble depreciates and loses its purchasing power. The Vice-Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) says the greatest achievement of 2015 was the new Constitution, which, he says, will open up new perspectives for the country. “This first of all refers the political arena. It [the amended Constitution] will allow us to avoid unsustainable developments, consolidate political forces and ensure opposition’s participation in political processes, which, I am sure, will help centralize all processes in the parliament building. All problems will be solved in the National Assembly, hence social or political forces will not take to the streets seeking a solution to this or that problem.” Gagik Minasyan says the adoption of the new electoral code is also very important. The discussions are scheduled to start in February, 2016.
