Vigen Chaldranyan’s “Alter Ego” movie, which is dedicated to the memory of Komitas Vardapet, was screened today for the journalists, which was followed by the press conference of the creative crew members of the movie. In the interview with journalists the director said that he had felt great trouble and responsibility when creating the movie: “This movie differs from my other twenty small and big movies in terrible sense of responsibility, as I dealt with the great son of Armenia, whose icon can be found in every Armenian house. According to me and the movie, Komitas is the conscience of Armenians, cultural messiah. Today we are facing the problem of regaining them. That feeling awoke trouble around me.” Vigen Chaldranyan didn’t want to give an assessment to the film, but he noted that he almost succeeded in achieving his objective: “Every Armenian has his idea of Komitas. I cannot say to what extent my interpretation corresponds to the idea of 12 million Armenians. But I can say one thing, that during my creative career, if I set a goal, I achieve at least 70-80 percent of it. I achieve success as I have a talent; I manage to bring talented and devoted people together.” Edgar Novents, the main character of the film is a well-known contemporary writer and a university professor at the department of journalism. He is focused on the creation of “Alter Ego” novel. In order to make the screenplay more realistic the main hero passes through the excruciating way that his literary personage had once passed. Basing himself on historical facts, archived materials and psychological versions the hero tries to reveal the Parisian fragment of the Master’s biography and spread light on the mystery of the last years of the great son of Armenia, which he spent in the mental health facility in Villejuif.
