Emir Kusturica to perform in Yerevan
The Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex in Yerevan will host on December 25 a concert by Emir Kusturica and The No Smoking Orchestra. The event is organized by Mezzo Production and Almazian Production, with the support of the Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee and the Ministry of Culture. The world-famous Serbian musician and filmaker Kusturica, who performs as the group's bassist, has said numerous times that the historical conscience of our two nations is very similar to each other: both nations have seen genocide. When five years ago Kusturica was invited to Antalya to participate in the Golden Orange Film Festival, political figures and artists in Turkey harshly criticized the Serbian musician saying he justified the mass slaughter of Muslims in during the war in Bosnia. Kusturica, in turn, decided to leave the festival, saying "If you are so sensitive to genocides, why don’t you speak about the genocide perpetrated against the Armenians during the First World War?”
