After the closure of polling stations across the country, hundreds of members and supporters of the New Armenia Public Salvation Front, a coalition of opposition parties and groups opposed to the constitutional changes, marches towards the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) protesting against what they said ‘a rigged referendum.’ The New Armenia leader said they have witness accounts and other evidence which speak of rigged elections, including open ballot, vote buying, multiple voting attempts, ballot-box stuffing, and other violations. The CEC Press Service issued a statement late at night saying a group of citizens gathered outside the CEC building expressed their desire to enter the building and discuss their specific concerns with the CEC Chairman. The CEC Press Service informs everyone that the CEC staff, including its chairman, is currently carrying out their statutory functions and summarizing the results of the Sunday referendum [which is to decide whether the country switches from the present semi-presidential to a parliamentary system]. At the same time, the CEC Press Service announces that the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Armenia is not entitled to receive citizens without written grounds and hold verbal discussions with them on their concerns as well as on the alleged violations. The CEC is ready to consider any application, complaint and demand submitted in due order under the procedures established by law.
