About in a month the bears of Gyumri Zoo will be transferred to Romania. Silva Adamyan, environmentalist, Head of “Save Gyumri Zoo Animals” initiative told in the interview with “A1+”. To note, recently it has been much discussed that the animals of the private zoo are in a terrible situation: they are hungry and even don’t have drinking water. The environmentalists turned to several organizations, but didn’t get support. Yerevan Zoo also refused to take the animals. One Romanian organization expressed readiness to help in order to ensure favorable conditions for the animals. “There is a special sanctuary-rehabilitation center, where the animals will be taken care of. It is anti-humanistic to keep those animals here.  They won’t be brought back anymore. Director of Gyumri Zoo gave his consent. He even asked to gather money and transfer also the rest of animals,” noted Mrs Adamyan. SOS Gyumri Zoo group has also been established. The volunteers of the group have turned to the people for support. “An Armenian American scholar reacted, allocated money and during the upcoming days we will be able to feed the bears and then transfer them,” highlighted the environmentalist. She thinks the fact that the animals have appeared in a difficult situation is due to the legislative gap. “There is a problem in terms of that: why must everyone have his own zoo? The conditions, in which animals are kept, must be under supervision. We know that the people in the upper echelons of the Government also have animals,” highlighted Mrs Adamyan.
