At the initiative of the European Union and Armenian Ministry of Justice, a discussion with donor organizations is under way in Armenia dedicated to the fight against corruption. Piotr Switalski, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia said in his speech, “Any report about bribery and corruption in the judicial system must appear in court and be punished.” The ambassador then spoke about the experience of other countries. “In many countries corrupt judges are even deprived of the opportunity to receive a pension. I think the same method can be applied in Armenia as well. Of course, political will and determination is needed in the fight against corruption,” Piotr Switalski, stressed. Armenia’s Minister of Justice Arpine Hovhannisyan says the government has the political will. “It is demonstrated in different ways. You will witness it soon. I do not want to give names and I refrain from speculations but I want to say that our actions will be be very quick and successive,” she said. Asked when the first official would stand trial, the minister said ordinary citizens will feel the changes immediately. Arpine Hovhannisyan also called on the media to present their proposals to the Ministry of Justice. “We are ready to discuss issues raised by our co-citizens and give you a meaningful answer. No question will be left unanswered,” she said.
