The recent terrorist attacks in France did not change the geopolitical situation despite the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin wanted it so much, political analyst David Shahnazaryan said today. "He [Putin] wanted changes on the international agenda, he wanted the West to stop insisting that Russian troops be withdrawn from Ukraine. On the other hand, the State Department yesterday made it clear that the sanctions will only be lifted after the return of Crimea. Russia’s hopes were not justified,” Mr Shahnazaryan said. The political analyst says today Russia is in a bad situation, because it has become number one target of extremists. In this context, he sees a serious threat for Armenia as well and says our intelligence agencies should receive serious funding by the state in order to solve these problems. “Our politicians are not serious about all this. Different things are happening in the world today while we are preoccupied with minor, domestic issues,” he stressed. Mr Shahnazaryan says Armenia cannot simply stay away from global events. “We should not interfere in the Syrian conflict as it might be fatal for us,” he said in conclusion.
