Secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) faction, Vahe Enfiajyan, announced during today’s parliamentary briefings that his party has not determined the format of its participation in the “Yes” campaign for the draft constitution. Speaking about BHK’s decision to expel Elinar Vardanyan from the party, the BHK official said, “She has been very passive. She has taken several actions without informing the party. She went on a business trip and did not participate in the sessions of our parliamentary group. These are all internal questions and I not want to go into details.” Vahe Enfiajyan says they respect the decision of Tigran Urikhanyan who came and spoke against the constitutional amendments. “The party has also considered the issue of other absentees and all absences were considered excused if the MPs were on trips. But there were people who were here, in Armenia, but did not show up in parliament sittings and participate in voting while they were to come and vote against bills, otherwise, I can think that they either said ‘yes’ or abstained from voting.” Head of the Republican Party (HHK) faction, Vahram Baghdasaryan, considers it normal that the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun and Country of Law (OEK) announce that they are going to form a majority in the next parliament. “Each political force is eager to l get an overall majority in parliament. We welcome their optimism and urge all political parties to be follow suit. The HHK has nothing else to add,” he said. Mr Baghdasaryan added that they have not discussed the course of the “Yes” campaign and the political forces they are going to do it with. When a journalist reminded Mr Baghdasaryan about the opinion of Levon Zurabyan, who said people are against the constitutional changes, and there is no consensus on the issue, the HHK member said, “Levon, Jhangir, Sasun… You are giving the names of persons, but they are not political forces. People are not against the constitutional reform. They turn Levon into Grandpa Lenin and make me concentrate on personalities every time. An MP can unjustly blame, for example, the Venice Commission and remain unpunished.”
