New geopolitical situation has been created in the Middle East since September 30. “Russia has tried to become a doer in this region. One of his goals was to keep his friend Bashar al-Assad and the second goal was that by becoming a doer here, Russia thinks that its role can be sold in Syria for obtaining serious concessions in Ukraine in return,” political expert Aghasi Yenokyan told “A1+”. Political expert Levon Shirinyan thinks that if 3 years ago Russia supported Syria, which had army and was more or less powerful at the time, Syrian authorities, naturally, would reject and wouldn’t allow. All the countries and especially Turkey are concerned with Russia’s presence. President of Turkey Erdogan announced that Russia could lose an ally like Turkey as well as another attempt of violating the integrity of its airspace would not remain unanswered. Mr. Yenokyan thinks that in this case Turkey has two main concerns. “The first is that Russia will reinforce Assad’s regime by its actions, and it means prolongation and escalation of the conflict. And the second problem is Kurds,” he said. In this context specialist on Islam Sargis Grigoryan notes: “There have been statements by some Syrian Kurds that they will be actively included in the struggle against the ISIS. It gives an opportunity to extend the territories under their control. And Kurds think that they will take advantage of that opportunity.” Political expert Levon Shirinyan is sure that with such actions Russia restrains Turkey’s appetite.
