National Assembly Speaker Galust Sahakyan says he was not particularly impressed by former president Robert Kocharyan’s interview his unofficial website, 2rd.am.Kocharyan again spoke against the constitutional reform that transforms Armenia into a parliamentary republic. “I do not think that the system is that bad or the situation is that tense to give such an assessment,” Sahakyan said. The speaker of the Armenian parliament does not think that Robert Kocharyan is going ‘to become an ordinary oppositionist.’ “If one wants to become and oppositionist, he declares about it,” he said. Galust Sahakyan does not consider Kocharyan’s criticism a blow to the Republicans. At the same time Mr Sahakyan says Kocharyn’s announcement about the political monopoly and the risks of snowballing into a de-facto one-party system is merely ridiculous. “How can we confirm that the entire document contains provisions which imply more advantages to the oppositionists than to the political majority,” he said. After the interview, Sahakyan did not get the impression that the second president intends to return to politics. “Perhaps he made a hasty speech, which as he says, lacked full episodes of political orientations.” Nor does Galust Sahakyan see the former president in the “No” camp which is campaigning against the constitutional amendments. The reason is that the parliament speaker does not understand the meaning of the camp. After we told Mr Sahakyan that the camp consists of people who oppose the constitutional reform initiated by Serzh Sargsyan, the parliament official said, “The front was to inform about its existence on the day when the draft constitution was put to a vote. They could have gathered at least 55 people, who would say they were from the “No” camp. Anyway, Galust Sahakyan says he welcomes criticism [of the new constitution]. “The more criticism is pronounced, the stronger will become the political force which forms a majority today.” “Kocharyan is not the person who will be able to thwart the draft constitution. He is a serious politician, but does not have a team,” Sahakyan said in conclusion"
