At the beginning of today’s parliament sitting, Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Galust Sahakyan congratulated everyone in connection with Teachers’ Day and congratulated Republican MP Hamlet Harutyunyan on his birthday. In the meantime, members of the Union for National Self-Determination (AIM) were protesting against the draft constitutional amendments outside the Presidential Palace at Baghramyan 26 waving the Armenian tricolor. Also, supporters and members of the You Won’t Pass It initiative started a march from Liberty Square to the NA building to urge the legislature to vote against the constitutional amendments initiative by Serzh Sargsyan. In her address, lawmaker of the Heritage faction Zaruhi Postanjyan said the NA sitting is being broadcast on TV, allowing everyone to see how Armenian lawmakers vote to pass an anti-national bill which will further promote migration and impoverishment. “We need to consolidate our strengths and demonstrate mass disobedience against all branches of power,” she said. Levon Zurabyan, Head of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction, said the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is going to adopt a decision, which is a big blow to the interests of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. “Realizing the severity of the situation, I call on the NA Speaker [Galust Sahakyan] to hold hearings with the participation of the Foreign Ministry and take serious steps to avert the imminent danger,” Zurabyan said. “You will speak about it tomorrow during the hour of announcements,” Galust Sahakyan said.
