Hayk Alumyan: Ara Budaghyan must be immediately released
“Ara Budaghyan, who has been detained in connection with the assassination attempt of Syunik Governor Surik Khachatryan, must be immediately released. There is no material giving rise to reasonable suspicion connected with his involvement,” Ara Budaghyan’s advocate Hayk Alumyan told “A1+”. According to the words of Mr. Alumyan, somewhat investigative activities are being carried out in connection with the case, but he cannot say that he is pleased with the course of preliminary investigation. To remind, Ara Budaghyan was charged with inducing an assassination attempt (criminal code of the Republic of Armenia, 38-34-104 article, 2nd part, 8th point). Another three persons, Henrik Avagyan, Vitali Minasyan, and Karen Atajanyan, were also charged in connection with the assassination attempt on Syunik Governor Surik Khachatryan on May 20. Ara Budaghyan, who had been detained since July 3, denied any relation to the assassination attempt Ara’s brother Artak Budaghyan was found guilty in connection with the case of a 2013 shootout outside Surik Khachatryan’s mansion, in which their third brother Avetik Budaghyan was killed.
