Within the framework of the graffiti festival “For the sake of a peaceful neighborhood,” street artists from Armenia and Javakhk are showing their works on the walls of Javakhk buildings these days. Artists from foreign counties, Tbilisi, Yerevan and Javakhk are participating in the festival. Taron Shahinyan and Narek Tserunyan, two participants from Armenia, have painted two paintings in Javakhk. “In Akhalkalak, we painted an episode from the well-known film “Mimino” which, we believe, perfectly reflects the Armenian-Georgian friendship. In Ninotsminda, we painted a portrait of Vahan Teryan, one of the great Armenian writers born in Javakhk. Since we are struggling for the preservation of the Armenian identity in Javakhk region, we think that it is very important of the local Armenians to know the noted people of their nation. We have also painted a tree of life, the portraits of Charles Aznavour, Derenik Demirchyan, Nodar Dumbadze, Shota Rustaveli, and many others,” Taron Shahinyan said. Asked what problems they had encountered during work, Taron said, “Many children here do not know Vahan Teryan. We believe that seeing our painting they will become more interested in his personality and will try to find more information about him.  Surprisingly though it may seem, some grown-ups did not know him [Teryan] either.” “First, people were looking at us in a weird way. Things have changed now,” said Aghunik Ayvazyan, one of the organizers of the festival. “People come to us and ask to paint more paintings on the walls. They say they finally see bright colours and happy faces. The initiative is aimed at calling more attention to culture in Javakhk,” she said thanking the locals for helping them in everything. This program is held for the first time. It started on Sept. 1 and will run until Sept. 10.
