Armenians living in Damascus should be resettled in Armenia
Islamic State rebels have moved closer than ever to centre of Damascus posing an obvious threat to the local Armenians. What can be done in the given situation to help Armenians living in the Syrian capital? “Armenians living in Damascus should be moved to Armenia with the help of the local Armenian community,” Vardan Voskanyan, an expert in Iranian studies, told A1+. “In the current situation, there is no other option. On the other hand, as far as I know our country cannot afford to bring so many people here. We should make use of Armenia-Diaspora ties, since we have many well-off Armenians abroad who can stretch out a helping hand to our compatriots in Damascus and arrange their resettlement in Armenia,” he continued. Obviously, Armenians are in great danger in all parts of the Middle East where IS militants are fighting a war. “Armenians have no future there,” Mr Voskanyan said in conclusion.
