Today, on September 1, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov will arrive in Baku. During the working visit Lavrov will meet with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov. As the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia informs during the meeting issues of “common interest” and situation in the region will be discussed. Azerbaijan may consider the situation at the world oil market as the most appropriate moment to open hostilities, thinks political analyst Aghasi Yenokyan by highlighting the essential changes in the issue of Karabakh conflict, which are connected with the economic situation in Azerbaijan caused by the drop in oil prices. “Azerbaijan thinks that now there is a chance to open hostilities, as after some time it won’t have the money and second, if it is involved in a war, the drop in the standard of living in the country connected with oil prices will be explained by war,” comments the political analyst. According to the words of the political analyst, the recent intensification of activities of the Minsk Group isn’t accidental, as in spite of Azerbaijani controversy, there is an issue of maintaining stability in the region. Besides the issue relating to the Karabakh conflict, during the meeting of Lavrov and Mammadyarov issues relating to the situation at world oil market, possibility of locating Russian military base in Azerbaijan as well as membership of the country in the Eurasian Economic Union will be discussed. To remind, it has been three months since the previous meeting of Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Russia. The negotiations held in Moscow were assessed “optimistic” by Mammadyarov.
