It has been a year that Syrian Armenian Nerses Haroyan sells lamps at one of the stalls situated in the underpass of the Republic Square. “There is little sale. We aren’t able to earn money,” he says. The conditions aren’t good enough for Syrian Armenians in Armenia. He rents a house and also rents the stall. “It is very difficult. I don’t say that Syrian Armenians shouldn’t pay any money, but at least half of the house and stall rent should have been taken from us,” says Nerses. He did the same business in Syria. The war made him leave his house, property and shop like many other Syrian Armenians and run away, “We lived well there, here we have few buyers and I am not able to keep my family.” He says that his buyers are both locals and Syrian Armenians. Nerses doesn’t have an intention to move to other country, he simply hopes that the concerns of Syrian Armenians will alleviate in Armenia.
