The Sinjar Yezidi National Union NGO today organized an exhibition which presented the massacre and persecution of Yezidis by the ISIL since August 2014. “The aim of the exhibition is to draw public attention to the problem and keep people informed of the events. More than 4000 refugees have found shelter in other parts of Iraq, Syria, Turkey and elsewhere,” said Zemfira Kalashyan, a member of the NGO. Three Yezidi families moved from Iraq to Armenia on July 30. They say they will not return to their homes even after the liberation of Shangal. “We lost our loved ones during the attacks. My uncle and his two daughters were killed during their escape attempt. If Shangal is liberated but remains under the control of Kurds, we shall not return there, because no one can guarantee that the same events may reoccurs in a month,” said Fadl Bşar. “Shangal must be granted sovereignty and Yezidis should be able to have their own army to defend themselves. We were engaged in trade. It does not want to sit around here, we shall find a job,” he added. The Sinjar Yezidi National Union NGO has provided financial support to these families.
