The "Rise, Armenia" initiative says it is going to block streets leading Republic Square from 7pm to 9pm, one of the leaders of the initiative announced today. "The Police continue to hider [with their illegal actions] the "Rise, Armenia" initiative from holding a peaceful sit-in at Republic Square, which stems from citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assemblies. The Rise, Armenia announces that it will block the streets leading to the square from 7pm to 9 pm in an attempt to bring the police to the legal sphere. We urge all motorists to bypass Republic Square during the reporting time period," Andrias Ghukasyan said. Activists of the newly formed initiative gathered at Republic Square on Monday evening with the aim of staging a 72-hour sit-in there, but the police prevented them from entering the capital's central and said such actions were unlawful. Several activists sat on the pavement near the square, determined to get to the central spot. They claim that their action will be more visible from there. On the same day, the activists divided into groups and walked back and forth on pedestrian crossings, trying to affect traffic and claiming that they did not break any law with their actions.
